چکیده

The wind output from atmospheric models is instrumental in forcing the oceanic models. Here we consider the wind output from the ALADIN and IFS models and compare it with the results of scatterometer and altimeter estimates of wind speed over the Adriatic Sea, as well as with the field data from 18 meteorological stations and a gas rig platform. A five-year period from 2008 to 2012 is considered in the comparison. Our principal conclusion is that, overall, both atmospheric models, when compared to the altimeter data, give very similar statistical results, with a scatter index of 0.33 and 0.35 for IFS and ALADIN respectively. More specifically, the ALADIN appears to be better in the Northern Adriatic whereas the IFS seems superior in the Southern Adriatic. A possible explanation of this difference could be that the higher spatial resolution of ALADIN is crucial in resolving the bora wind impact over the Northern Adriatic. Bora-induced currents corresponding to different synoptic conditions above the Adriatic

The Bora wind field is characterised by strong vorticity and divergence. Several numerical experiments, in which an oceanographic model was forced with northeasterly winds having climatological alongshore variability, were performed in order to study the influence of spatial variability in the bora wind field on the surface currents in the northern Adriatic. Numerical model results showed that ...

Simulation and Prediction of Wind Speeds: A Neural Network for Weibull

Abstract. Wind as a resource of renewable energy has obtained an important share of the energy market already. Therefore simulation and prediction of wind speeds is essential for both, for engineers and energy traders. In this paper we analyze the surface wind speed data from three prototypic locations: coastal region (Rotterdam), undulating forest landscape few 100 m above sea level(Kassel), ...

Sea Surfaces Scattering by Multi-Order Small-Slope Approximation: a Monte-Carlo and Analytical Comparison

L-band electromagnetic scattering from two-dimensional random rough sea surfaces are calculated by first- and second-order Small-Slope Approximation (SSA1, 2) methods. Both analytical and numerical computations are utilized to calculate incoherent normalized radar cross-section (NRCS) in mono- and bi-static cases. For evaluating inverse Fourier transform, inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) i...

Development of a mathematical model to design an offshore wind and wave hybrid energy system

Fossil Fuels are always considered as environmental pollutants. On the other hand, the political and economic situations highly affect the price of these fuels. Offshore wind and wave, as renewable energy sources, represent the better alternatives for electricity generation. Therefore, it is necessary that wind speeds effectively be estimated due to the absence of field measurements of the wind...
